This national park trip was included in our accommodation package. We visited during off-season, and there were so few tourists that the entire resort seemed to be serving just the two of us. The restaurant was outdoors - we had every meal under that 600-year-old tree, with four staff members surrounding us, which made us feel quite uncomfortable and embarrassed. On the last day, we were in a rush and said we’d skip lunch, but when we told them, they got anxious saying they’d already started cooking specifically for us, so we ate before leaving. What surprised us most was learning that pristine forests have no mosquitoes - proof the environment is well protected and the ecosystem is functioning normally.
For the canopy walk, guests staying at Mutiara Resort can walk directly there. Since we stayed elsewhere, we had to take a boat in, and a guide came with us - all included in the fee. Having a guide means they handle the queuing, so we used that time to hike up to the summit first. When we came back down, we could go straight to the canopy walk without wasting any waiting time.
