The Golden Rule

Finding facilities in New Zealand often requires searching for where they are likely to be located, rather than the facility itself. A public park rarely has a power outlet, but a library always does.

💻

Charging & Working

"Library""Community Centre""Recreation Centre"

Libraries in NZ are a traveler's best friend.

They offer free power, fast WiFi, and comfortable seating.

Community centres often have lobbies where you can charge your gear for free.

🚿

Hot Showers

"Aquatic Centre""Public Pool""Laundromat""Holiday Park"

Don't just search for 'Showers'.

Most public swimming pools (Aquatic Centres) allow you to use their hot showers for a small fee (~$2-5).

Some high-end laundromats also provide shower facilities.

🚰

Potable Water

"Drinking Water""Public Park"

Filling up a campervan or large water jugs is easiest at 'Dump Stations'.

Many are free and located at gas stations (Z, Mobil) or public parks.

Always check if the water is marked as 'Potable'.

📶

Free WiFi

"Library""McDonald's""Spark Phone Box"

Aside from libraries, look for pink 'Spark' phone boxes on the street.

They provide 1GB of free WiFi daily for everyone.

Many public squares in cities like Auckland or Wellington also offer free city-wide WiFi.

🍳

Cooking & BBQ

"Public BBQ""Public Park"

Many NZ public parks (often called 'Domains') have electric BBQs that are free to use.

Just push the button to start the timer.

Remember to clean the surface after use!
